The death of beloved Chinese “costume-drama heartthrob” Yu Menglong at the age of 37 has become one of the most shocking and controversial events in Chinese showbiz this September. According to a social media blogger, Yu’s mother and about ten relatives confronted the manager and fellow entertainers who had been drinking with Yu on the fatal night. During this meeting, she allegedly demanded explanations about the forensic report, questioning why Yu’s blood alcohol level was three times the normal limit and why his body contained traces of an unknown injected substance. Instead of receiving answers, Yu’s mother was reportedly assaulted, pushed to the ground, and injured, while the family was threatened and pressured to accept hush money. This intimidation, sources claim, led to Yu’s funeral being conducted in secrecy, with his body cremated under urgent circumstances.
The situation has drawn chilling parallels to the 2017 case of actress Ren Qiao, sometimes referred to as the “little Angelababy,” who was found dead under suspicious circumstances after allegedly falling from a 13th-floor building while intoxicated. Her body, too, was cremated quietly, and despite the presence of a known male actor that night, police investigations ended abruptly.
Today, suspicions swirl that Yu Menglong’s death may be heading down the same path. Reports claim that on the night of the tragedy, 17 people consumed 38 bottles of alcohol, and at least eight suspects have since been questioned — though some allegedly lied about their roles.
Prominent Chinese stars, including Sun De Rong, Wang Zhao Da, and Chen Xiao Tong, have publicly called for authorities to re-examine the case. They demand transparency over CCTV footage, fingerprint evidence, and the identities of all individuals present that night. Fans echo these demands, urging the police to uncover the truth and deliver justice not only for Yu Menglong’s grieving family but also for the millions who loved him.
For now, however, the truth behind Yu Menglong’s tragic death remains buried under a cloud of secrecy, fear, and unanswered questions.
