Within minutes of Chief U.S. District Judge James E. Boasberg announcing he was reopening contempt proceedings against the T.r.u.m.p administration, the internet erupted. What pushed it past the breaking point wasn’t speculation; it was 27 pages of sworn whistleblower testimony and internal chat logs submitted by Erez Reuveni, the career DOJ attorney who was fired the moment he went public.
The most damning line, attributed to Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove (T.r.u.m.p’s own nominee for a lifetime appeals-court judgeship): “If the judge issues an order that interferes with removals, just say ‘fuck you’ in your head and keep doing what we’re doing.”
That exact mindset, Reuveni alleges, is why two deportation flights carrying more than 130 Venezuelans bound for an El Salvador mega-prison continued to their destination even after Judge Boasberg, in a dramatic late-night Zoom hearing, ordered the planes turned around mid-flight. They never were.
“This is no longer mere noncompliance,” Boasberg warned from the bench this week, voice ice-cold. “This is willful, coordinated defiance of federal court orders.” He has now vowed to haul every involved official into court, one by one, from the line attorneys who allegedly lied about the planes’ locations to whoever issued the secret midnight directives, and he explicitly refused to rule out jail time.
Inside Main Justice, sources describe an agency in full-blown panic. MAGA senators are torching Boasberg as an “open-borders activist judge” on every cable channel, while veteran prosecutors quietly update résumés. One senior DOJ official told reporters off the record: “Nobody wants to be the first person in 200 years to go to jail for following orders from the White House.”
