A routine marine show turned into a terrifying nightmare when professional orca trainer Jessica Radcliffe was violently attacked by a killer whale during a live performance, in front of a crowd filled with families and children. The entire incident was captured on camera and has since gone viral across social media, sparking outrage, heartbreak, and a renewed debate over the ethics of marine animal entertainment.
Witnesses described the moment as “something out of a horror movie.”
Radcliffe, 32, a seasoned trainer with over 12 years of experience working with orcas, was in the water with a male killer whale named Kai’ro, performing what should have been a synchronized swim routine. As she gave the signal for a deep-dive spiral trick, Kai’ro suddenly latched onto her leg and pulled her underwater, refusing to let go.
For nearly three excruciating minutes, the whale thrashed, dragged, and pinned Radcliffe beneath the surface.
