Lions Family: The Question Is… Who Was the Quarterback When You Became a Detroit Lions Fan?
For me, it was Tobin Rote — a name forever etched in my memory from the magical season of 1957. I remember that day like it was yesterday. The crowd was electric, the stakes were high, and our Detroit Lions were fighting for glory. When Bobby Layne went down with an injury late in the season, hope seemed to fade… until Rote stepped in.

He didn’t just replace Layne — he ignited a fire in the team and the city. With four touchdown passes in the NFL Championship Game, Rote led us to a stunning 59–14 victory over the Cleveland Browns, securing the last NFL Championship the Lions have won to this day. That was the moment I became a true fan — not just because of the win, but because of the heart, the grit, and the pride that lives in every Lions player.
Now I turn the question to you:
Who was the quarterback when you fell in love with the Lions?
Was it Matthew Stafford, battling through the years with unwavering toughness? Jared Goff, leading a new era of hope? Or someone else who made you believe?
