Caitlin Clark Facing Big Angel Reese Decision for All-Star Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark was named a WNBA All-Star Game captain for the Eastern Conference last week after receiving a record-breaking 1,293,526 fan votes—the most in league history. She also became the first player in Fever history to be named an All-Star captain.
Still, the 23-year-old has only played in nine games this season and has missed 10 due to injury. In those nine appearances, she has averaged 18.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 8.9 assists per game.
Since the WNBA named Clark a captain alongside Western Conference representative Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx, the league has announced the full All-Star roster, with starters revealed last Monday and reserves named on Sunday.
Chicago Sky star forward Angel Reese was among the players named Sunday afternoon.
Reese’s selection, which wasn’t a surprise given her play this season, sets up an intriguing storyline heading into the All-Star Game.
Clark and Collier will draft their respective teams for the game on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET, and with Reese named to her second All-Star Game, Clark now faces a decision on whether to select her.
This is notable because of the recent history between the two second-year players. It all started dating back in college, when Reese played at LSU and Clark played at Iowa.
In the 2023 NCAA Women’s National Championship, Reese taunted Clark with a “you can’t see me” gesture, moments before the final buzzer of LSU’s 102-85 victory over Iowa.
Their rivalry continued into the WNBA, with both players pinned against each other as they sought to capture the Rookie of the Year award.
Then, during the first game of this season, Clark committed a hard foul on Reese during a second-chance opportunity, sparking an altercation and resulting in a flagrant one foul against Clark.
