BREAKING NEWS: “9 Hours of Horror in Washington D.C.: 12 People Shot, City Shaken by Fear”
Washington D.C. – October 29, 2025
In just nine hours, 12 people were shot in the nation’s capital, marking the most violent weekend of 2025 and raising concerns about security in the heart of the nation.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the first shooting occurred at 5:30 p.m. Friday on Yuma Street, injuring a teenage girl. Less than 15 minutes later, a teenage boy was shot on 50th Street. Two hours later, a man was shot on 16th Street, before a 5-year-old boy was grazed in the face by a bullet on Savannah Terrace, shocking the community.
Just minutes later, five more people – three men, one woman, and one teenager – were shot near Howard University, where the school was holding its Homecoming event. Police arrested two 19-year-old suspects and seized three guns, but said there were still others involved. The shootings continued, with two men shot on Benning Road and another critically wounded on Hiatt Place the following morning.

President Donald Trump immediately deployed the National Guard to stem the wave of violence that was “besieging the capital.” However, experts say the spike in crime shows that Washington, D.C., is facing a serious security crisis, where people no longer feel safe even in their own homes.
“9 o’clock. 12 people. A city shaking with gunfire,” said one Georgetown resident. “We don’t know what’s going to happen next — we just know that this capital is losing its peace.”
