Sources close to Mr. Trump at Mar-a-Lago told The New York Times that the former president was watching the broadcast live in his private residence when the segment aired at 11:47 p.m. Eastern. Within moments, they said, the mood inside the estate turned volcanic.
“He was screaming at the television, then screaming at anyone within 20 feet,” said one person who was present and spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation. “He kept saying, ‘De Niro? De Niro? This washedHAS-been thinks he can talk to me like that?’ Then he threw the remote so hard it cracked the screen on a 75-inch OLED.”

Whether the incident will have lasting political consequences remains unclear. Mr. Trump, who announced his 2024 candidacy last week, has long thrived on media controversies that energize his base. Yet even some Republican strategists privately expressed concern that sustained, high-profile ridicule from cultural icons could chip away at his image among suburban moderates.
For now, the clip continues to spread. As of 6 p.m. Eastern, the official “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” YouTube upload had surpassed 31 million views, with the top comment — liked more than 800,000 times — reading simply: “Bob didn’t come to play. He came to indict.”
At Mar-a-Lago, the televisions were reportedly turned off by late morning. One staff member, departing the estate Saturday afternoon, said the former president had retreated to the golf course with instructions that “nobody mention Hollywood for the rest of the weekend.”
