President Donald Trump claps back at David Letterman after the former late night talk show comes out in support of Jimmy Kimmel following his show being suspended ‘indefinitely’

President Donald Trump goes after former late-night television host David Letterman after he voices his support for Jimmy Kimmel amid the latter’s recent on-air suspension.

After Jimmy controversially commented about Charlie Kirk’s murder during his opening monologue on last Monday night’s episode of his self-titled talk show, ABC announced that they were suspending his program indefinitely because of his remarks. Amid the shake-up at the television network, Jimmy’s fellow late-night peers and fans have stood in solidarity with him, and come to his defense, such as Letterman.

“Whatever happened to the very highly overrated David Letterman, whose ratings were never very good, either,” the POTUS penned late Friday in a post on Truth Social. “He looks like hell, but at least he knew when to quit. LOSER!!!”

Meanwhile, on Thursday, Letterman had snapped at the Trump administration following announcements that Jimmy’s show being shelved “indefinitely.”

“I just, I feel bad about this because we all see where this is going, correct? It’s managed media and it’s no good,” the ex Late Show anchor said at The Atlantic Festival in New York City. “It’s silly; it’s ridiculous; and you can’t go around firing somebody because you’re fearful or trying to suck up to an authoritarian criminal administration in the Oval Office. That’s just not how this works.”

What Jimmy said on his show that got him axed had to do with Charlie Kirk’s suspected killer, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson.

Jimmy said that America “hit some new lows over the weekend,” when the “MAGA gang desperately tried to characterize this kid who killed Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them,” during his opening monologue on last Monday’s episode.

Jimmy then claimed that conservative Republicans attempted to “score political points” following Charlie being slain during his appearance at Utah Valley University earlier this month.

ABC confirmed the fate of Jimmy’s show after media company Nexstar announced that they were pulling Jimmy Kimmel Live! From the line-up. Nexstar is among America’s largest local TV station operators and owns 28 ABC affiliate stations around the country.

Nexstar’s broadcast division president, Andrew Alford, opened up about the reason behind Jimmy’s show being nixed in a statement.

“Mr. Kimmel’s comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse, and we do not believe they reflect the spectrum of opinions, views, or values of the local communities in which we are located,” Alford said. “Continuing to give Mr. Kimmel a broadcast platform in the communities we serve is simply not in the public interest at the current time, and we have made the difficult decision to preempt.
